Paul Kornfeld

Paul Kornfeld, like Kafka a Germanspeaking Jew, was born in Prague 1889, lived in Germany as a dramaturge and successful author of expressionist plays. Encouraged and supported by the publisher Ernst Rowohlt though, he wrote his novel BLANCHE in the Thirties in his native Prague. As the war increased he was deported to Poland and died in 1942 in the Lodz ghetto. His manuscript survived and was first published by Rowohlt Verlag in 1957.
